2019 Federal Budget Announcement: Visa Application Fees to Increase

From 1 July 2019, the Department of Home Affairs base Visa Application Charge (VAC) for all visa subclasses will be increased by 5.4 per cent, except for the visitor (subclass 600) visa.

In comparison to last year’s Federal Budget, only the base VACs will be increased, with the additional applicant charges remaining the same. Many will also be pleased to know that the second instalment VAC will remain unchanged.

The table below lists current vs new VACs for pertinent visa applications:

With the announcement of the VAC increases, applicants that are currently eligible to apply for their visa are encouraged to do so before 1 July 2019 to avoid having to pay any additional costs.

Overall, it is expected that the base VAC increase alone will generate additional revenue of $275 million dollars over a four-year period.
